My claim or election didn’t go through. What should I do?
The IRS says delays usually come from information that doesn’t match Social Security records. If you got Notice CP318, follow its instructions to claim the account or fix the error, and check names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth before resubmitting Form 4547. IRS phone representatives can’t correct an election or help you claim the account. Don’t file Form 1040-X to fix Form 4547. For help managing an account, the official line is 866-USA-4547. The Help Center says some delays are normal while the information you entered is matched to your child’s record, and that if you stop partway through, your progress is saved.
