Will a Trump Account affect SSI or Medicaid?

Social Security excludes a Trump Account from SSI resources before January 1 of the year the child turns 18; direct contributions generally are not income during that period. It counts as a resource from that January 1. A special full-balance rollover to an ABLE account may be available during the calendar year the child turns 17, subject to ABLE eligibility and the applicable rules. Do not assume the same answer for Medicaid: ask your state agency before moving money.

Some social media posts say a Trump Account will make a child ineligible for Medicaid. We haven’t found an official source that says so. The SSI rules above come from Social Security’s policy manual.
