Trump Account or 529: what is the difference?
A Trump Account is a retirement account for a child; a 529 is designed for education. Qualifying 529 education withdrawals can be federally tax-free. A Trump Account generally restricts withdrawals during childhood and later follows traditional IRA rules. A contribution from the government or an employer is a separate decision from where you put your own savings.

What to do next
- 01
Identify the goal: education spending, long-term retirement savings, or emergency access.
- 02
Compare the actual fees, investments, state benefits and withdrawal rules of the plans available to you.
- 03
Confirm any employer conditions before contributing your own money.
This is a comparison of account purposes, not a recommendation to move money. State tax treatment and individual circumstances differ. Ask a qualified adviser about tax, aid and benefit consequences.
